Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, USA (Lamaane.net) – The Somali Hero Awards announced on Thursday that its 2026 ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 14, at the Marriott Minneapolis Northwest Hotel in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, bringing together Somali leaders, professionals, artists, philanthropists, and community advocates from around the world to recognize outstanding service and achievement.
The annual event, organized by the Somali Diaspora Center and Volunteers of Somalia, has become an established platform for honoring individuals whose contributions have advanced humanitarian work, education, healthcare, business leadership, cultural preservation, and community development. Organizers said this year's edition is expected to attract participants from Africa, North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, reflecting the awards' growing international profile.

Ali Gaashaan, President of the Somali Hero Awards, said preparations are focused on delivering what organizers expect to be one of the largest ceremonies since the awards were established.

"The 2026 Somali Hero Awards will be a landmark occasion. We will honor remarkable individuals whose dedication, sacrifice, leadership, and service have positively impacted Somali communities and contributed to the development of our people and nation. Their stories deserve recognition and celebration," Gaashaan said.

Event organizers said the ceremony will introduce new award categories, broaden international participation, and include special tributes recognizing individuals whose work has transformed lives across Somali communities worldwide. Speaking to Lamaane  News Network, officials said planning efforts are already underway to accommodate a larger number of guests and honorees than in previous years.

Hassan Mustaf Isak, Executive Director of the Somali Hero Awards, said invitations are expected to reach distinguished Somali figures representing diverse professional and civic backgrounds.

"This year's event will bring together influential Somali figures with historic contributions to our communities. Guests and honorees are expected to travel from all five continents, making the Somali Hero Awards a truly global celebration of Somali achievement and unity," Isak said.

Organizers said the 2026 ceremony builds on the momentum of the 2025 awards, during which several prominent Somali figures were recognized for their public service and community contributions. Honorees included Dr. Habeeb, humanitarian leader Sheikh Nur Hadi, Dr. Amina of Hawa Abdi Hospital, the late Elmi Hagar, who received a posthumous award, renowned artist Salad Derbi, and Asli Abade.

The previous event also drew senior public officials, including Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Somalia Sadiya Samatar, former Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Daud Aweis, Member of Parliament Asha-kos, diplomats, and community representatives.

Organizers said the annual gathering has evolved beyond a recognition ceremony into a forum that strengthens connections among Somali communities across continents.
