Ankara (Lamaane.net) - Türkiye's Foreign Ministry condemned Israeli airstrikes on Syria's Abu Duhur military air base in Idlib on Tuesday, August 18, calling them a violation of Syrian sovereignty.
The ministry said the strikes were carried out early Tuesday against the military facility in northwestern Syria and targeted the country’s infrastructure and capabilities.

"Israel continues its reckless attacks targeting Syria’s infrastructure and capabilities and violating its territorial integrity and unity,” the ministry said in a statement.

Ankara urged the international community to take a firmer position against what it described as escalating Israeli attacks on Syria and called for accountability for actions it said disregarded international law.

Syrian state media reported that eight strikes hit the Abu Duhur military air base, causing material damage. No casualties were reported. Details about the facilities damaged in the attack were not immediately available.

The Israeli military did not issue an immediate comment on the reported strikes. Diplomat News Network could not independently verify the extent of the damage at the base or other details surrounding the attack.

Türkiye’s Communications Director Burhanettin Duran also condemned the strikes, saying military action against Syrian territory posed a threat to the country’s sovereignty as well as regional peace and stability.

Duran said Türkiye would continue supporting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and would oppose attempts that threaten stability in Syria and the wider region.

The statements underscore Ankara’s opposition to Israeli military operations inside Syria and its emphasis on preserving the country’s territorial unity. Türkiye has repeatedly argued that Syria’s sovereignty should be respected as the country seeks greater stability following years of conflict.

Abu Duhur military air base is located in northwestern Idlib province, a strategically significant area that has been affected by prolonged fighting during Syria’s conflict. The reported attack adds another point of tension to an already fragile regional security environment.

Türkiye’s call for international action also places the incident within a broader diplomatic debate over military operations conducted across Syrian territory and their implications for international law and regional stability.

Ankara’s response indicates that it views the reported attack not only as damage to Syrian military infrastructure but also as part of a wider challenge to Syria’s territorial integrity.

With no immediate Israeli statement explaining the operation, the purpose of the reported strikes and the full extent of damage at Abu Duhur remained unclear Tuesday.
