Kasala (Lamaane.net) – The Popular Resistance in Sudan's Kasala State organized its first "Dignity Wedding" for 170 members and mobilized volunteers at Kasala Stadium on Friday, July 17, bringing together state officials, military officers, and community members in a public ceremony aimed at supporting participants and encouraging family formation.
The event, held under the slogan "From the Trenches of Pride to Homes of Virtue," was attended by Acting Kasala State Governor Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Al-Sadiq Mohamed Al-Azraq, members of the Kasala State Government, Sudanese Mineral Resources Company Managing Director Dr. Mohamed Tahir Omar, who sponsored the initiative, and National Popular Resistance Chairman Lt. Gen. Bashir Makki Al-Bahi.

Addressing the gathering, Al-Azraq praised the Sudanese Armed Forces and supporting forces for what he described as recent battlefield gains, saying the Popular Resistance had expanded its role beyond military support to include community service and development projects. He said the collective wedding honored the contributions of mobilized volunteers and encouraged young people to marry despite the country's ongoing economic and security challenges.

"The initiative reflects appreciation for those who have served their communities and helps reduce the financial burden associated with marriage," Al-Azraq said. He also commended the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company for supporting social responsibility programs across Sudan's states and advised the newly married couples to build their families on mutual respect, patience, and shared values.

Dr. Mohamed Tahir Omar said the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company had supported more than 400 community and development projects across Sudan during the conflict. He said the company would continue backing development initiatives in Kasala State as part of its corporate social responsibility program.

Lt. Gen. Bashir Makki Al-Bahi said the Popular Resistance would continue supporting its members through collective marriage initiatives, announcing plans to organize another mass wedding for 300 participants in White Nile State in the coming days. He also said the city of El-Obeid remained safe and stable.

Speaking to Lamaane News Network during the event, several attendees said the initiative eased the financial burden of marriage at a time of rising living costs and prolonged conflict. Families and guests filled Kasala Stadium throughout the celebration, where the newly married couples participated in a public ceremony marked by community gatherings and official congratulations.

Kasala Popular Resistance Chairman Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Yahya Al-Nour congratulated the newly married couples, saying the initiative sought to protect young people by encouraging marriage, reducing associated costs, and strengthening social stability. He expressed appreciation to the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company for sponsoring the event.

Amin Ali Al-Amin, rapporteur of the organizing committee, said beneficiaries included members of the Sudanese Armed Forces, police, intelligence services, support battalions, armed movements, visually impaired participants, and families of fallen service members.

The mass wedding reflects a broader effort by community organizations and public institutions to provide social support during Sudan's ongoing conflict. Organizers said similar initiatives are expected to continue in other states as part of programs aimed at easing economic pressures on families, promoting social cohesion, and supporting those serving in military and public security institutions.
