Mogadishu (Lamaane.net) – Djibouti National Police Commissioner , Col. Abdirahman Ali, visited key Somali Police Force facilities in Mogadishu on Wednesday, July 15, as part of an official delegation aimed at strengthening bilateral policing cooperation, exchanging operational expertise, and enhancing institutional ties between Somalia and Djibouti.
During the visit, the delegation toured the Somali Police Force's Godir Special Police Unit, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Counter-Terrorism Command, and the Haram'ad Special Police Command. Senior Somali police officials briefed the visiting delegation on the structure, operational capabilities, specialized training, and ongoing security missions carried out by the respective units.

Officials accompanying the delegation observed demonstrations highlighting tactical preparedness, criminal investigation procedures, intelligence coordination, and counterterrorism response capabilities. The visit also included discussions on professional development, operational planning, and areas for future technical cooperation between the two police institutions.

A senior Somali Police Force official said the visit reflects the growing security partnership between the neighboring countries and their shared commitment to addressing regional security challenges through stronger institutional collaboration.

"The exchange of operational experience and professional expertise contributes directly to improving policing standards and strengthening our collective response to transnational security threats," the official said during the visit.

A member of the Djiboutian delegation said closer cooperation between the two police forces would support long-term regional stability by encouraging regular exchanges of training, intelligence, and best practices.

"The security challenges facing the Horn of Africa require sustained cooperation between neighboring institutions. Professional partnerships such as this help build stronger operational capacity for both services," the delegation member said.

According to observations made by Lamaane News Network at the visited facilities, officers from specialized units conducted routine operational activities during the tour, with security personnel demonstrating equipment, command systems, and coordinated response procedures. The atmosphere remained formal, with senior commanders from both countries holding technical discussions inside the command centers after the field inspections.

Somalia and Djibouti maintain longstanding security cooperation through bilateral agreements and broader regional frameworks focused on combating terrorism, organized crime, and cross-border threats. Djibouti remains one of Somalia's closest regional security partners and has contributed personnel to regional stabilization efforts over several years.

Security analysts say regular institutional exchanges between police agencies strengthen investigative capacity, enhance operational coordination, and improve the sharing of intelligence and law enforcement expertise across national borders. They note that sustained professional engagement also contributes to more effective joint planning and the adoption of best practices in policing.

The cooperation has gained greater significance as governments across the Horn of Africa expand regional efforts to address terrorism, human trafficking, illicit arms trafficking, and other forms of transnational organized crime. Officials say closer collaboration between neighboring security institutions supports broader regional stability and improves their ability to respond to evolving cross-border security challenges.
