Washington, D.C. (Lamaane.net) - U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking in an interview broadcast Monday, on Fox News, said Iran committed a strategic mistake by attacking Gulf Arab states, pledging total victory and continued pressure against Tehran amid fragile ceasefire discussions.
Trump described the ceasefire situation as highly unstable, stating that "the ceasefire is in a state of intensive care” and that "there is a 1% chance it survives.” He added that Washington would maintain pressure until a comprehensive agreement is reached with Tehran, asserting, "We will continue pressing Iran until a deal is achieved.”
In the same interview, Trump claimed that U.S. military operations had significantly weakened Iran’s leadership structure. "We eliminated leaders in the first and second tier, and nobody wants to be president there,” he said. He further characterized Iran’s proposal for a ceasefire as "stupid,” arguing that it failed to explicitly address the country’s nuclear ambitions. "They did not say they will not pursue a nuclear weapon,” he said.
Trump also referenced recent air operations targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, stating that American pilots had carried out what he described as "excellent work.” He suggested Iran might still be attempting to rebuild military capacity in recent weeks, adding, "My plan to contain Iran was a brilliant military strategy.”
A regional energy analyst, speaking on condition of attribution, said the remarks reflect "a sustained escalation in rhetoric that could complicate diplomatic off-ramps if not managed carefully.” Diplomatic observers noted that public messaging from both Washington and Tehran remains sharply divergent as indirect contacts continue.
The interview also touched on global energy markets, with Trump asserting that oil prices would decline once tensions with Iran ease. "Once we finish with Iran, you will see a major drop in energy prices,” he said. He further alleged that Iran had been responsible for "more than 40,000 deaths in recent months,” without providing supporting evidence during the broadcast.
Trump additionally stated that upcoming discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping would include energy security and Iran-related issues, particularly maritime stability in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments. He claimed Beijing had expressed concern over disruptions affecting shipping routes.
The Strait of Hormuz has remained a focal point of geopolitical risk, with analysts warning that any escalation could significantly affect global energy flows and regional stability. Observers continue to monitor military activity and diplomatic signaling as tensions persist between Washington, Tehran, and Gulf states.
Diplomatic and security experts note that the current trajectory underscores widening uncertainty, with potential implications for energy markets, regional alliances, and ongoing nuclear negotiations involving Iran and major world powers.
