Nairobi (Lamaane.net) – The Kenyan National Police Service (NPS) arrested eight suspects and seized 250 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa during an overnight anti-narcotics operation in the Githurai 44 area of Kasarani Sub-County, Nairobi, on Friday, July 17, after acting on intelligence and information provided by members of the public.
The Kenyan police said officers launched the targeted operation following actionable intelligence indicating that a residential property in Githurai 44 was being used to store and process illegal narcotics. After securing the premises, officers conducted a comprehensive search and recovered a large quantity of suspected cannabis along with materials believed to have been used for packaging and processing the drugs.
According to the Kenyan National Police Service, officers seized 250 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, 1,800 rolling papers, a 25-kilogram bag of white polythene packaging material, and a large metallic sieving mesh allegedly used in processing the narcotic.
Police said all recovered exhibits were documented and placed in secure storage at the station pending forensic examination and court proceedings.
The eight suspects were taken into custody by the Kenyan police and escorted to a police station for processing before their planned arraignment in court. Investigators are continuing inquiries to establish whether the suspects are connected to a wider narcotics trafficking network operating in Nairobi and surrounding counties.
A senior Kenyan police official involved in the operation said the seizure demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and cooperation between law enforcement and local communities. The official added that information provided by members of the public was instrumental in identifying the suspected location and enabling officers to act quickly.
Residents in the Githurai 44 neighborhood reported seeing an increased presence of Kenyan police officers during the overnight operation, with security personnel securing the area before entering the residence. Several community members told Lamaane News Network that the raid was carried out in an orderly manner and expressed hope that continued enforcement efforts would help reduce drug-related crime affecting local families and businesses.
The Kenyan National Police Service commended the officers who participated in the operation and thanked members of the public for their continued cooperation in combating illicit drugs and other criminal activities. The service encouraged residents to continue sharing information through official reporting channels, saying community partnerships remain essential to effective policing.
The operation forms part of the Kenyan police's broader efforts to combat narcotics trafficking and dismantle criminal networks involved in the production, storage, transportation, and distribution of illegal drugs.
Security analysts say sustained intelligence-led operations, supported by community cooperation and successful prosecutions, remain important to strengthening public safety and disrupting the illegal narcotics trade across Kenya.
