Tel Aviv (Lamaane.net) - Israeli government approved a nationwide artificial intelligence acceleration program proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Tuesday, June 16, to advance Israel's global AI leadership and economic growth.
The decision, adopted during a formal government session, outlines a comprehensive national strategy designed to position Israel among leading global artificial intelligence powers while strengthening technological independence and long-term economic competitiveness across key sectors.
The policy package includes large-scale investments in infrastructure, research and development, workforce training, public sector integration, and international cooperation frameworks. It sets a national target of establishing 100,000 high-performance computing units within Israel to support scientific research, industrial innovation, and startup ecosystems. The plan also includes the development of a national quantum computing system based on domestic expertise and technologies.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the initiative aims to secure Israel’s position in the global technological race, describing artificial intelligence as "a real revolution” that will reshape core pillars of society, including the economy, security, health, education, and industry. He stated that Israel intends to transform its innovation capacity into "a global superpower in artificial intelligence,” drawing parallels with its earlier advances in cybersecurity.
A senior official involved in the policy framework told Lamaane News Network that the program reflects "a long-term national shift rather than a short-term investment cycle,” emphasizing that sustained infrastructure development and talent cultivation are central to its success. The official noted that global competition in artificial intelligence is accelerating and that countries failing to adapt risk falling behind in strategic capabilities.
Erez Eskal, head of Israel’s National Artificial Intelligence Directorate, described the decision as a foundational step for the country’s future economic and security resilience. He said nations that successfully embed artificial intelligence across governance and industry systems will define the next technological era, adding that Israel must remain at the forefront of that transition through coordinated state-led investment.
The strategy also prioritizes the expansion of international partnerships in advanced technologies, alongside the creation of a national AI institute and specialized accelerator centers focused on applied solutions to domestic and global challenges. Authorities said particular attention will be placed on cybersecurity-oriented AI systems, industrial automation, and emerging risks such as deepfake technologies.
Education and labor market adaptation form another core pillar of the program, with planned investments in training, reskilling, and academic development to prepare the workforce for AI-driven transformation. Officials also aim to integrate artificial intelligence tools more widely into government services to reduce processing times and improve administrative efficiency.
Israel’s approach reflects its broader technological policy trajectory, building on established strengths in cybersecurity and high-tech innovation while responding to intensifying global competition in artificial intelligence development.
The policy is expected to have significant geopolitical and economic implications, potentially reinforcing Israel’s role as a regional innovation hub while deepening its engagement with global technology alliances and reshaping domestic labor dynamics over the coming decade.
