Moscow (Lamaane.net) – The Russian Ministry of Defense reported early Monday, April 6, that Russian air defense units intercepted 148 Ukrainian drones over central and southern regions of Russia between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, while emergency crews worked to restore power to nearly 500,000 homes affected by the attacks.
The announcement came after a civilian volunteer in Russia’s Belgorod border region was killed Sunday evening when a drone struck the area, marking yet another attack in a zone frequently targeted by Ukrainian forces. In the southern port city of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea, drone debris damaged a residential high-rise, though no casualties were reported, according to local authorities. "The wreckage of the drone struck the building but fortunately caused no injuries,” said Andrey Kravchenko, mayor of Novorossiysk.
In Crimea, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev reported four drone attacks throughout Sunday, with Russian air defenses successfully shooting down seven drones during the latest wave. Meanwhile, in the Russian-controlled Donetsk region, Andrey Chertkov, head of the Russian-installed administration, confirmed that repair teams restored electricity to the key cities of Donetsk and Makiivka following Ukrainian strikes on energy infrastructure.
On the Ukrainian side, Odesa experienced a deadly escalation when Russian forces launched a missile strike overnight. City military administrator Serhiy Lysak reported via Telegram that at least three civilians were killed, including a child, and ten others were injured, two in critical condition.
"Residential buildings were hit during last night’s attack, resulting in casualties,” Lysak said. Eyewitnesses in Odesa described damaged apartment blocks and shattered windows along main thoroughfares, while emergency services worked throughout the night to evacuate residents and clear debris.
Independent analysts emphasize that these drone and missile attacks illustrate a continued intensification of asymmetric warfare along the Russia–Ukraine frontlines.
"The scale and coordination of drone strikes indicate growing operational capabilities on both sides,” said Elena Petrovna, a Moscow-based security analyst. Locals in Belgorod and Novorossiysk told Lamaane News Network that frequent air raid sirens and temporary power outages have disrupted daily life, raising concern about civilian safety and emergency preparedness.
The attacks underscore the broader strategic implications of the ongoing conflict, particularly the vulnerability of critical infrastructure in both countries.
Russian authorities have repeatedly framed the drone campaigns as a threat to domestic security, while Ukrainian officials continue to target energy and logistical nodes in Russian-occupied territories as part of broader counteroffensive operations. The duality of offensives and defenses highlights a sustained escalation with humanitarian and geopolitical ramifications, with civilian populations on both sides increasingly caught in the crossfire.
